Pension Credit Scandal

Up to 5000 people in the Falmouth and Camborne area, and up to 20,000 in Cornwall alone are missing out on money to which they are entitled to receive from the Government. Could you or someone you know be one of them?

The Pension Credit - which guarantees a minimum income for pensioners is not reaching half the people it should. This is because to claim it, people must fill in long and demeaning forms. The Government knew that people would be put off by this - so incorporated this fact into the budgeting of the scheme!

If you think you, or someone you know may be entitled to the Pension Credit, and you would like more information about claiming, please contact us, and we will send you more information.

Fee Free Cornwall

Campaigning against tuition fees

Only the Liberal Democrats have proposals to abolish student and top up fees, without cutting Higher Education. If you support this policy, join our campaign to call on the Combined University in Cornwall at Falmouth to rule out top-ups.

Fair Deal for Adult Social Care in Cornwall

Cornwall's older people, adults with disabilities and their carers have every right to lead fulfilling, independent lives. The rising levels of need we face in Cornwall are not matched by increased resources and as a result the quality of people's lives, their independence and wellbeing is threatened. There must be a new national financial settlement for adult social care. Our campaign will promote the case for Cornwall and join with other areas across the country to highlight the current crisis in adult social care funding.

Gurkha Justice

Nick Clegg celebrates Gurkha victory

The Gurkha Justice campaign has been a real success for both moral judgement and people power. It is only right that those who have put their lives on the line for our country are given the right to settle here. It was a rare event that government MPs defy the party whip and voted with the opposition, it goes to show that lobbying your MP can make a real difference to the how Parliament votes. Inspite of our recent victory in the House of Commons, Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats are keeping up the pressure on the Government to listen to Parliament and allow all retired Gurkhas to settle in the UK; the campaign does not stop with the motion through the House of Commons.

Take Back Power

"Take Back Power" was launched in 2009 as a means of restoring public confidence in the British Political System. It covers a wide range of areas which we feel need reform, none more important than moving to a system of Proportional Representation in Parliament; this would mean that the political make up of the House of Commons would actually represent how you have voted across the country.

Axe the Tax

Council tax is now the most unpopular tax in Britain today - because it's the most unfair tax. Worse still, council tax, as part of a system of local government finance, was described by the Audit Commission as "fundamentally flawed".

Axe the Tax campaigning

"It's unacceptable that pensioners are being clobbered with Council Tax increases, but are still being put off from getting extra benefits that should be theirs by right. Liberal Democrats believe the best solution is to scrap the council tax altogether, and provide a decent state pension which everyone can claim without fear of being stigmatised," said Julia Goldsworthy.
