Christmas Lights Twinkle In Falmouth12.00.00am GMT Sat 27th Nov 2004
Fine weather and a visit from Father Christmas made the Christmas lights switch-on a special occasion for Falmouth last Thursday night. Father Christmas came to visit the town for the evening by boat rather than on his usual transport of a sleigh and reindeer, and helped town Mayor Maureen Davies turn on the lights on the Moor. They then walked through the town together to admire the twinkling lights, before ending up on the Discovery Quay where they were entertained by a Samba Band. The entertainment on the Quay is part of a wide range of events planned on the late night shopping nights before Christmas. Next Thursday the Discovery Quay will play host to a nativity scene of live animals. Commenting, Mayor Maureen Davies said: "It was a real honour to turn on the Christmas lights, especially given the special visit we had from Santa Claus. Thank goodness we were blessed with fine weather this year - that and the samba band really helped make the evening special." Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate Julia Goldsworthy added: "I'm really impressed by the way that local businesses have pulled together to make sure that Falmouth's Christmas lights are something to remember. The town centre in Falmouth has turned into a magical place, which I'm sure will attract plenty of late night shoppers."
